STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATIONS ON LICENSING OF VIRTUAL NETWORK OPERATORS (VNOs) IN ZIMBABWE

Vision : A World Class, fair and competitive regulatory environment with universal communications services throughout Zimbabwe by 2020

STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATIONS ON LICENSING OF VIRTUAL NETWORK OPERATORS (VNOs) IN ZIMBABWE

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) regularly reviews the Regulatory Framework for the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. This is in response to the fast-paced technological developments, evolving consumer needs and expectations, in order to ensure optimal alignment with developments in the external environment as well as to foster unhindered growth and innovation.

The proposed review of the telecommunication licensing structure entails the amendment of the Postal and Telecommunications (Licence Registration and Certification) Regulations, 2001 which provide for telecommunication licensing to include a new Virtual Network Operator license category.

It is envisaged that the entry of VNOs in the telecommunications market will potentially raise the level of competition by providing consumers with a wider choice of service providers, a wider range of innovative value added services and more competitive pricing plans.

By this notice, POTRAZ hereby invites views, inputs or comments to the proposed framework by 30 April 2017. To download a copy of the document, please visit the link below.
