POTRAZ Hosts Regional Communications Forum

Vision : A World Class, fair and competitive regulatory environment with universal communications services throughout Zimbabwe by 2020

The Communications Regulator’s Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) is the Southern Africa Development Community’s (SADC) agency for the coordination of regional harmonisation of regulatory frameworks in the Communications Sector established within the framework of the SADC Treaty and the SADC Protocol on Transport, Communications and Meteorology. CRASA does not only have an important role to play in the growth and development of the SADC region‘s communications sector, but is also a forum for regulators to meet, moot policy and legal changes, share ideas, experiences and inspire each other to regulate the Sector more effectively.

In order to deliver on its mandate, CRASA formed committees with varying expertise in the communications sector. Zimbabwe is a standing member of the CRASA Legal and Policy and other Committees such as the Postal and Electronic Communications. Since the establishment of CRASA, Zimbabwe through POTRAZ, has been effectively participating in meetings and activities of the Legal and Policy Committee which has been and continue to shape the legal and policy framework of communications regulation in Southern Africa. The Convener of the Committee is Zambia and Co-Convener is Malawi. Over and above its scheduled meetings, the Legal and Policy Committee provides legal advice to the CRASA secretariat in between meetings of the Committee.

It has to be noted that most of the legal and policy issues discussed in this Specialized   Committee guide the setting up of regional Standards, Protocols and Directives in the communications sector that will guide member countries of the Southern Africa Development Community.
